The
Dartmoor National Park
provides excellent Guided Walks, for a small fee, for all ages
and abilities, covering Wildlife, Natural History, Medieval
Workings, Children's Walks, Family Strolls etc. Sheep, ponies
and cattle roam the more and there is evidence of prehistoric
man; hut circles etc and tin workings of more recent time.
There are stretches on East and West Dart that can be fished
by purchasing a Duchy of Cornwall permit, and also parts of
the Tavy, Walkham, Plym, Meavy and Teign. You can also fish
on any of the seven reservoirs within the National Park.
The local Inn, -The Tradesman's Arms - is at Scoriton about
1½ miles away, and the village of Holne - 3 miles - offers
church, and the Church House Inn and local shop.
The small town of Buckfastleigh
- about 4 miles away - has a wide range of shops, inns and
churches. In season there is a heated Open-Air Swimming
Pool, Tennis Courts, and a Bowling Green.
The Farmers' Market is held on Thursdays. The South
Devon Steam Railway to Totnes starts at Buckfastleigh,
which has an Otter
Sanctuary, and a Butterfly Farm. Also here

Soldier, the pub "frozen in time". Buckfast Abbey
is close by, and Pennywell

The
River Dart Country Park and Adventure Park are close to
the ancient Stannary town of Ashburton, Widecombe-in-the-Moor

Abbot - market day Wednesday - and the picturesque town of
Totnes with its old buildings and quaint alleys. Here the
market is on Friday and Saturday and during the summer there
is an Elizabethan day every Tuesday. Dartington
Hall and the Cider press are nearby.
We are only 25 miles away from the ancient City of Exeter
and the City of Plymouth, and the coast with many good
beaches is only about 3/4 of an hour away. There is a good
Zoo at Paignton and the whole area has a wealth
of good Craft centres and Nature Reserves.

Moretonhampstead and Wrangaton; Sports and Recreation
